Brigadier General Jethrow Chipili

Zambia Army Military Officer

📅 Matete: 1983 – 1989 (Grade 1–7)

Brigadier General Jethrow Chipili joined the Zambia Army in 2002 after completing his Bachelor of Arts in Education Degree from the University of Zambia. His mother was also a teacher at Matete until her transfer to Mansa in 1990.

            He has held numerous appointments including Staff Officer in charge of Research and Evaluation, Directing Staff at Staff College-Kamwala, Col Coordination, Chief of Policy Doctrine and Strategy Development, and Military Advisor to two Army Commanders — Lt Gen WM SIKAZWE and Lt Gen SD Alibuzwi. He is currently part of the steering committee tasked to operationalise the Zambia Defence University.
          

He completed the prestigious Mirpur Defence Services Command and Staff College in Bangladesh with a Master of Science Degree in Military Science. He also holds a Master's degree in Environmental Education from UNZA. He is an author of the book 'Soldiers of the Forgotten Army' and was instrumental in organising the Africa Land Forces Summit in Livingstone (2024).

Judge Yvonne Chembe

📅 Matete: 1976 – 1979 (Grade 4–7)

She joined Prince Charles Primary School in 1976 in Grade 4 and left in 1979 when the name had been changed to Matete Primary School. She went to Helen Kaunda Secondary School for her secondary education.

            She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Zambia and a Masters in Women's Law from the University of Zimbabwe. She currently serves as a Judge of the Court of Appeal — a proud product of Matete Primary School.

Dr. Mwaba Sifanu-Malichi

Lecturer & Researcher, Copperbelt University

📅 Matete: 1993 – 1997 (Primary)

Dr. Sifanu-Malichi holds a BSc in Biochemistry from UNZA, an MSc in Chemistry, and a PhD in Chemistry from CBU. She began her academic journey at Matete Primary School and later served as a Chemistry teacher at Matete Secondary School under the Ministry of Education.

            She emerged as the best-performing MSc Chemistry student and was awarded the prestigious Copperbelt University Africa Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Mining (CBU-ACESM) Scholarship for her doctoral studies. Her research focuses on occupational health and safety, particularly protecting workers through applied chemical and occupational hygiene approaches.

Dr. Kutemba

Chemical Engineer & Research Scientist

📅 Matete: 1983 – 1990 (Grade 3–7)

Born in Luanshya and raised in Kitwe, Dr. Kutemba is a chemical engineer, research scientist, mentor, and trained post-compulsory education (PGCE) educator with over 20 years of combined experience in the mining industry and R&D in water, energy, and environment sectors.

            She possesses a PhD in Chemical Engineering focusing on bio-economies — modelling energy self-sufficient biorefineries and assessing their sustainability (techno-economic, environmental life cycle, and social impacts). She has worked closely with government ministries, academia, and NGOs on various initiatives.

Dr. Monica Bowa-Nkhoma

Consultant in Nephrology & General Internal Medicine

📅 Matete: 1985 – 1989 (Grade 3–7)

Dr. Monica Bowa-Nkhoma is a Consultant in Nephrology (Kidney) and General Internal Medicine at New Cross Hospital in the United Kingdom. After Matete, she attended Fatima Girls Secondary School and obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from UNZA.

            She was awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship to study in the UK and completed a Master of Medical Sciences in Nephrology at the University of Sheffield. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and enjoys teaching medical students during their placements.

Bruce Habeenzu Chibabuka

Head Coach, Green Buffaloes Squash Club

📅 Matete: 1982 – 1986 (Primary)

Bruce attended Matete Primary School from 1982 to 1986. His family later relocated to Kalulushi, marking the inception of his squash odyssey under ZCCM.

            He became the inaugural junior athlete to clinch the East, Central, and Southern Africa title in 1994. He pursued professional squash in South Africa with Western Rackets, completed his coaching certification in 1997, and has coached in Tanzania at Gymkhana Club and Colosseum Gym. He now serves as Head Coach of Green Buffaloes Squash Club, Zambia Army.

Hope Elizabeth Chalawila Mukabe

Retired Headteacher (38 Years of Service)

Hope Mukabe is a retired Headteacher who served 38 years unbroken in the Ministry of Education. Her first appointment from college was at Matete Primary School — her former school, then Prince Charles.

            She holds a Diploma in Education Management and a Bachelor of Education in Leadership and Management from Chalimbana University/UNZA. She was instrumental in twinning Bolton Local Education Authority (UK) with Kitwe District Education Board through British Council. She served as District Secretary for Kitwe District Headteachers Association and was a Headteacher for 17 years at 4 different schools.

Lutanda Lawrence Katilungu

Financial Management Professional (ZICA)

Mr. Katilungu is a Zambian financial management professional with over 20 years of NGO experience and five years in the private sector, specializing in accounting, grants management, and compliance for major donor-funded initiatives including USAID projects with budgets up to USD $3.5 million.

            A member of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA), he has worked with World Vision, Hivos, Save the Children, CHAZ, and USAID. His expertise spans financial reporting, budgeting, audits, capacity building, and payroll management.

Moomba Macpherson Ng'andu

Professional Football Coach, NAPSA F.C. & FAZ

📅 Matete Primary (Completed Primary)

Moomba is a professional football coach currently working with NAPSA F.C. in Lusaka and serves as a Talent Identification Coach with the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ). He is the firstborn in a family of eight.

            He played for Power Dynamos, Zanaco F.C., Wits University F.C. (South Africa), Cape Town Spurs, Mother City, and Athletico Avondale F.C. He also played internationally in Malaysia (Telekom Maleka), China (Sea Bulls F.C.), and the UAE (Al-Dhali'd, Sharjah, Dubai). He has coached from grassroots to senior level.

Reverend Christopher Njovu

Reverend, Emmasdale UCZ, Lusaka

📅 Pupil: 1972–1973 | Teacher: 1993–1998 (Matete)

Rev. Christopher Njovu is a dedicated minister of the Gospel who began at Prince Charles Primary School (Grades 1–2, 1972–1973) and later returned to teach at Matete Basic School (1993–1998) under the late Mrs. Katilungu.

            He holds a Bachelor of Theology from the University of the Western Cape (South Africa), an Honours Degree from Northwest University, and a Master's Degree in Theology and Development from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He is a PhD candidate and has delivered devotions at state functions, including the birthday celebration of President Kenneth Kaunda.

Sharon Sichilongo

Executive Director, Business Regulatory Review Agency (BRRA)

Sharon Sichilongo is the Executive Director of BRRA, a position she has held since 2016. She has worked in quasi-government institutions, NGOs, and mainstream media for 29 years.

            She is credited with establishing the first One Stop Shops for Business Registration in Zambia. She was among nine women who received the "Woman Reform Champion" award from PSDRP in 2013. She holds an MBA from Cavendish University and a degree in Mass Communication from UNZA.

Teddy Sylvester Chishiba

Former Track & Field Athlete (400m/800m)

Born August 11, 1984, Teddy began running at Matete Primary School and later competed for inter-schools at district and provincial levels. He specialized in the 400m and 800m events.

            He represented Zambia at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. His personal bests: 1:50.86 (800m) and 47.95 (400m), both set in 2002. He participated in a training camp in Nairobi, Kenya. He actively participates in activities to improve his former primary school, Matete.

Chileshe is a dedicated education professional with a unique background spanning pension administration, HR management, and secondary school teaching. She currently serves in a dual role at Matete Secondary School as Teacher and School Planner.

            She holds a Bachelor's Degree in HR Management from CBU (graduated with Credit) and a Bachelor of ICT in Education. Her combined expertise in administration, human resources, and educational technology makes her an invaluable asset responsible for strategic institutional planning and school improvement plans.
